During your stay in Paris, you may need to experience the French medical system; unless you come on purpose to use it for one good reason: it is universally regarded as excellent, though one of the best value for money in the world. SOS MEDECINS: If you are traveling and have a medical issue, the reception at your hotel will promptly manage a doctor for you. It might be a costly solution, as “on duty” doctors tend to overcharge quite a lot. Alternatively, you can call SOS Médecins. They will visit your hotel or residence 24 hours a day with a medically equipped vehicle.

The doctors are French, but do speak varying degrees of English. Price for a visit is relatively cheap (under €100, cash or check, no credit card).

SAMU (Emergency Medical Assistance Service): In case of serious emergency, dial the Pan-European number 112. Calls are received by either SAMU or the fire brigade, and then instantly forwarded to the ad hoc service. Alternatively, you can dial 15 to get to SAMU directly and talk to a doctor who can determine the most suitable response implement it by sending and ambulance with a mobile resuscitation unit... or even a medical helicopter!






There are thousands of pharmacies in Paris. If a pharmacy is closed, it always lists on the door another pharmacy in the neighborhood that’s open.


PHARMACIE ANGLAISE DES CHAMPS ELYSEES: This is surely the most accessible english-speaking pharmacy in Paris, centrally located near the best hotels. Since 1890, it provides tourists and expatriates with the French equivalent of US and UK medicines and translation of your prescription if you visited a french-speaking doctor.

Health care in French public hospitals varies very much in quality, depending where you receive your treatment. Depending on the level of emergency and pathology, doctors will decide where to dispatch a patient. We have listed here the best private hospitals in Paris. If you are paying out-of-pocket, your bill will likely be quite a bit higher here than in a French public hospital. However they do understand international-style health insurance procedures and reimbursements, and you may feel more comfortable here.

CLINIQUE INTERNATIONALE DU PARC MONCEAU: Totally refurbished in 2011 with the highest comfort in term of hospitality and top class equipment (including a high-tech medical imaging department), this intimate 100-bed clinic hosts the first private self-care dialysis center in Paris (35 dialysis stations).

Reputed for its vascular surgery department, the hospital implemented recently a new cancer treatment decision making process to involve multi-disciplinary expertise.
